CURRENT MANAGEMENT COMPETENCIES OF PROJECT MANAGEMENT SPECIALISTS FOR THE FIELD OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES

Abstract

The article is devoted to issues related to the current competencies of project managers in the field of information technology. According to the results of the analysis of current sources and resources, it was found that the demand for specialists in the field of IT is constantly growing. In recent years, there has been a growth in vacancies among project management specialists.By analyzing current sources and expert opinions, it was found that the demand for specialists in the field of project management is influenced by: experience, region, expertise of the specialist (his experience) and the reputation of the educational institution where the specialist studied.It is determined that the demand for specialists in this specialty with experience is much higher than those without experience. The main reason for this situation in the IT labor market is the lack of quality modern training in educational institutions.An analysis of current competencies for such specialists (soft skills and hard skills). The main software skills include – sociability, flexibility, creativity, responsibility, self-discipline and organization. Hard skills include – basic knowledge in the field of IT to navigate the project, knowledge of English at B2 and above, risk management (ability to properly assess risks, establish strategies and tactics to deal with them, ability to assess project performance, planning project parameters. In most cases, IT managers need to develop these skills in courses or on their own. It is recommended to change the approach to the training of such specialists through the merger of higher education institutions and leading IT companies, the introduction of dual education, etc., develop professional competencies of young professionals and increase the competitiveness of project managers without work experience. The development of relevant competencies, namely hard skills and soft-skills of project managers in the field of IT through educational programs, courses and self-study will be able to enable in the future in the IT profession not only those who have experience and technical knowledge, but also those who want to develop in this direction.
