TRANSFORMATION PROCESSES AND DEVELOPMENT TRENDS IN UKRAINE’S PACKAGING INDUSTRY

Abstract

The modern global packaging market is characterized by active transformation processes driven primarily by technological innovations, evolving consumer preferences, and increasing requirements for the safety and environmental sustainability of packaging products. The article examines the current state and major development trends of Ukraine’s packaging industry amid transformations in domestic and global markets. The dynamics of industry development, the structure and production volumes of major types of packaging materials, as well as the key factors influencing market conditions are analyzed. Particular attention is paid to the impact of innovation, technological change, environmental requirements, European integration processes, and contemporary economic challenges on the functioning of enterprises in Ukraine’s packaging industry. The Ukrainian packaging materials market is shaped by a combination of global market trends and domestic socioeconomic factors. Under martial law, disruptions to logistics networks, changes in production patterns and consumer demand, and fluctuations in the prices of raw materials and energy resources have intensified transformation processes and affected the development trajectories of packaging industry enterprises. The main challenges facing the industry are identified, and prospective directions for its further development are substantiated in view of current trends in the global packaging market. Priority areas for the development of Ukraine’s packaging industry are proposed, focusing on technological modernization of production, enhanced competitiveness, and compliance with European environmental requirements. The growing import dependence of the Ukrainian economy is largely associated with the consequences of Russia’s military aggression, which has resulted in the occupation, damage, and destruction of a significant number of domestic enterprises and production facilities. The resulting reduction in national production capacity has led to lower domestic output of certain types of products and, consequently, increased reliance on imports to meet domestic demand.
