ANALYSIS OF THE POULTRY MEAT MARKET IN UKRAINE: A MODERN COURSE IN THE CONTEXT OF FOOD SECURITY
Abstract
The article analyzes the functioning and current state of the poultry market in Ukraine. The trends in the poultry meat market over the last ten years in terms of production, sale and consumption of poultry meat are analyzed. Also, an analysis of rates of sale and consumption of poultry meat in comparison with the previous year is carried out, the ratio of volumes of production and sale of poultry meat in live weight and a share of the grown poultry meat in relation to total volumes of the grown meat in Ukraine is defined. The dynamics of indicators of poultry meat market development as important indicators of food security of the country are considered. Among the indicators of the dynamics of the poultry meat market are considered: market supply (production), imports, demand (consumption fund), exports and analysis of the supply/demand ratio and exports/imports in the market. Analysis of the dynamics of meat production and consumption by the population of Ukraine per capita per year compared to the dynamics of the share of total expenditures spent on food by one household in Ukraine in the period 2010-2020 showed that in 2020 the population of Ukraine spent the least on food for the last 10 years, while the level of consumption of poultry meat has increased in recent years. The monitoring of the Ukrainian poultry market shows some constant fluctuations, both positive and negative. The small increase in production and consumption of poultry meat in Ukraine has led to a certain imbalance between supply and demand in the poultry market. The level of self-sufficiency of meat in the country in 2020 was calculated on the basis of data on meat production and consumption. The indicator of the level of self-sufficiency in meat in 2020 after calculations was 0.74, and shows that today, Ukraine can not fully provide the domestic market for meat, and low level of self-sufficiency in meat will indicate a high dependence on external poultry producers. According to the results of the analysis of the poultry meat market, it is important to establish a certain balance in the market and increase the level of self-sufficiency in meat, as the main strategic indicator in ensuring food security of the country.
